Holbox is one of the most beautiful islands of the Yucatán peninsula and it’s our personal favorite for a tour. The island is situated in the Gulf of Mexico and therefore the water has beautiful green and turquoise tones, as opposed to the blues of the Caribbean Sea. The vibe is really Caribbean and laid back. Holbox is famous for its amazing long beaches and wonderful warm, shallow water, which makes it also perfect for (smaller) children.

Although already quite popular among backpackers, "influencers" and honeymooners, this island has maintained its cozy charm: you won't find big resorts or hotel chains on the island, just some hostels and small eco-boutique hotels. Also, in order to protect the environment and the ambiance on the island, the entrance of vehicles is not allowed at Holbox (with the exception of some locals and providers for the shops and restaurants). On the sandy roads, locals as well as tourists use golf carts and bicycles as the most important means of transportation. In the village center, the houses, walls and buildings are decorated with colorful street art.
